Two weeks ago, I agreed to cook for a close friend’s baby shower.
Cooking is how I show love. I spent days preparing food for fifty guests with joy.
The night before the event she messaged:
“You’re uninvited due to space… but please drop off the food.”
No apology. No explanation. Just expectation.
I replied calmly:
“If I’m not invited, I won’t be providing the food.”
It wasn’t anger.
It was self-respect.
The next day she accused me of backing out. I didn’t argue.
Instead, I packed all the food and delivered it to a community center.
Families smiled. Children asked for seconds. Strangers thanked me.
What began as rejection became purpose.
What I Learned
-
Boundaries protect your kindness.
-
Generosity deserves respect.
-
Sometimes being uninvited is life redirecting your gifts.
I didn’t attend that baby shower.
But I showed up — for myself, for others, and for my peace.
